2024.12.18 new moon in sagittarius
===
[00:00:00] How would you behave going into 2025 into a brand new year or really any time? How would you behave? If you knew you could not fail. So on this podcast episode. I'm going to talk to you about the final new moon of 2024. It's happening nearly on the last day of 2024 on Monday. December 30th on a Monday, which is ruled by the moon.
[00:00:27] It is the second new moon in December, um, which is, is kind of rare to have two new moons in a calendar month. We are starting and ending. 2024 on a new moon. Not on the day, but on the moon cycle, we started with a new moon and we're ending with a new moon. So. This just feels really auspicious for being extra, intentional, extra. Um, good about your mindset going into 2025 and I will assert, and hopefully it will become more clear over this podcast episode that you would probably be behaving differently.
[00:01:07] If you could sort of erase the fear of failure. I know that can be true for me personally. And I suspect that it's true for you too. And so this new moon. That's coming up that I'm going to tell you all about on this podcast episode is a good time to work with that. This new moon is all about starting 20, 25 with a sort of clean. Slate.
[00:01:30] And let's talk about why we'll end with yoga practices and journal prompts to help you best harness. The energy of this new moon, because that's what a Yogi scope is. I'm your host, Rosemary Holbrook. And I'd like to extend you a warm welcome to the Yogi scopes podcast. I am a Vedic sidereal astrologer. And a yoga therapist, which means. When I'm saying this new moon is in Sagittarius.
[00:01:57] I imagine everybody else on the internet, especially if you're in a Western country. And you're just out there on social media, on the internet and you are kind of paying attention to astrology, everybody else is probably saying that this one is in. Capricorn, I believe I always get it backwards.
[00:02:15] The tropical Zodiac that most of those folks are using, if they are not distinguishing. Between if they're not like I'm sitting here saying vedic sideral astrology, most people who just say astrology and they're not. Qualifying that that is what we call Western tropical astrology. And so. That uses the tropical Zodiac.
[00:02:38] And I always get it switched to my head if it's assigned ahead or assigned before. I think it's a sign ahead. So they would say this new moon is happening in Capricorn. Well, if you use a night sky app or you look up at the night sky, the moon will be in Sagittarius on. December 30th, which is what we're talking about when this new moon happens. It w so to me that feels better.
[00:02:58] This idea, aerial Zodiac that is used by Vedic astrology is more astronomically accurate. That feels better to my somewhat science minded. Brain and to the people in my life who were like, you're, you're into astrology. Like, you know, that's not even real. Right. And I can be like, well, actually the astrology that I study. Is astronomically accurate.
[00:03:21] So it's closer to real. Um, but I also just like don't care personally, I'm a professional astrologer and people do say that to me. Um, and I don't care. And that actually feels like it goes along really well with. Our topic of the new moon. Which is, how would you behave if you felt like you couldn't fail?
[00:03:41] So that has been a really big. Thing along my journey of being a professional astrologer, is there a plenty of people in my life that are like, Astrology's dumb, like, you know, or whatever, like, you know, that's not even real, right. Like I get those sentiments from folks. And, um, that has been a subtle mindset block for me to work through is like, yeah, I. I know, and I still see the value that it plays in my life.
[00:04:07] And so we'll talk about it. We'll talk about it over the course of this episode, specifically with yoga practices and journal prompts, because. That's where the yoga therapist piece comes in. I have spent many years getting this, uh, official certification. And what it means basically is I will teach you how to apply the therapeutic wisdom of yoga. To what you need at any given time.
[00:04:34] So on this public podcast episode, it's more related to the seasons and subtle energies. We collectively feel ourselves experiencing through Jyotish through Vedic astrology. That's what we're talking about here. But if you want to dive in deeper with me in other, there are other ways to work with me, where we could look at your birth chart, um, your body.
[00:04:55] We would incorporate all of those things to formulate a specific plan, because we all know. If you're here, I suspect you're listening to this podcast episode because you know, That yoga is healing. You have felt those healing benefits, but we also know that not all yoga is. For everybody, there are people that love hot yoga.
[00:05:15] There are people that love restorative yoga. There are people that love you, and there is all these different kinds of yoga with very different flavors. And so I personally am a lover of all things yoga, and I'm a lover of applying them strategically to your needs. That's what yoga therapy is. And so we're talking about this in broad strokes level, out on the. Podcasts.
[00:05:40] And if you want to dive in more deeply, there are ways to do that. Um, first let's talk about housekeeping first way to work more deeply with this is get your planner. So this is a new moon, right? At the end of 2024. We're going to be talking about setting intentions for 2025. And so get your 2025 Vedic astrology planner.
[00:06:02] The Yogi scopes planner. It will be linked in the show notes, wherever you're watching or listening. It'll be right at the top of the show notes. Of this podcast episode and go ahead and order it now because we are having a yearly vision setting play shop. I want to call it a play shop instead of a workshop. Because. We want to be setting our vision from a place of play.
[00:06:28] Um, and so that will be Sunday, January 5th, from one to 4:00 PM. So I pushed that back originally, that was supposed to be. Last weekend. Sunday, December 15th. And you might've heard me say that on the podcast. Um, But it's, it will officially be January 5th. The planters are ready. I had to push it back because it was my fault. Because the planners aren't ready. And now. They are, and you can go ahead and order them, and that's why you need to order it right now so that you can get it by that January. Fifth.
[00:07:01] So let's talk about the new moon because it's in Sagittarius, which as you may know is maybe you don't know, maybe that's why you're here. Listening is because we want to be reminded and told, um, the new moon in Sagittarius, Sagittarius is this like. It's such a like vision board vibe, which so is Pisces.
[00:07:21] So Pisces and Sagittarius are both ruled by Jupiter. So that's where that sort of like. More overall vision energy comes from, um, and then Sagittarius is ruled by Jupiter. It's a fire sign. So that brings this like adventurous quality to it. This like really. Spunky Sparky quality to Sagittarius. And, um, Sagittarius is. I'm going to say it's a fire sign. And so the symbol for Sagittarius is it's like the center thing with these pulling back the arrow. And so that to me always feels like when Sagittarius energy is heightened, that we're thinking about like where we're pulling back to shoot forward, which is an important part of the process. If you want to get further than you can reach with your little arms, you have to be pulled back like the arrow. And take aim to then be released and let go and see where you fly to like the arrow.
[00:08:30] So that's the Sagittarius vibe. And let's explore it. Some more. So just to be clear because I didn't, I don't think I said it as explicitly yet. The new moon is happening on Monday. December 30th, around 5:26 PM. Eastern time. It's in poor. Uh, Shada. NOx Yatra, which we will, of course also dive into the vibes of on this podcast episode.
[00:08:58] So. What that means what I want to point out about that. I alluded to this earlier in the beginning of the episode that.
[00:09:08] It's on a Monday, which is ruled by the moon. This year 2024 began on a Monday. And, um, It also the first. Moon cycle of the year was a new moon rather than a full moon. And so we're starting next year, 2025 with a full moon. So, um, this year. I would say because of that is sort of more related to intention setting.
[00:09:39] And specifically, I kind of touched on this earlier, too mindset blocks, working through mindset blocks around intention setting. I would say that has been. A vibe of 20, 24. And so the reason I say that working through mindset blocks is because it is a Saturn year. 2024 is. And so I talked about this on the, um, 20, 25 outlook that I just put out.
[00:10:09] It will be the episode immediately before this one that you're listening to. Um, where I talked about 20, 24 being a Saturn year, 2025 being a Mars year. And so Saturn is all about, so that's kind of like an overarching vibe for the whole year. And when we look at what the year is sort of book ended with, um,
[00:10:32] And so this is like so funny to me, or like serendipitous to me that. 2024 began on a Monday. It's ending on a Tuesday. So we began on moon's day and we're ending on Mars is day. Tuesday is ruled by Mars and we're heading into a Mars year. So that just feels really like also pointing to the same vibe.
[00:10:54] So we look at these kinds of things to help understand. The overarching vibe of the year. And so when we're at this new moon at the very end of 20, 24, we will want to sort of set our intentions of like how we want to integrate all of the lessons of this year to move forward a new in next year in 2025.
[00:11:17] And so the yoga practices and journal prompts will hopefully help you with that. But I want to always explain all of the astrology that's in. The background. And so. One being that sort of vibe of, of 20, 24 brought on by the new moons. And the, you know, beginning on Monday. Ending on a Mars day. Um, and the Saturn year.
[00:11:38] So Saturn is all about facing your fears about overcoming obstacles and about specifically. Cultivating discipline, despite mindset blocks. So especially when Saturn and the moon. So this is what I've been pointing out is like, there's a lot of moon energy that I've just pointed out and there's a lot of Saturn energy.
[00:11:58] So. Maybe I'm feeling more drawn to pointing this out because I am in the peak of my Saudi Sauti personally as an Aquarius moon. And where. My moon is sitting Saturn transited over it in the early part of this year. Like January, February, March ish. Um, it transited directly over my moon and my natal Saturn. Uh, in February, which is also my solar return in, um, Yeah.
[00:12:29] So, so that's me. And so maybe I always like to point that out because I'm like, you should know things about your astrologer because. They are not immune to. Being affected by the astrology in different ways, because it is so complex. And so maybe that's why my perspective is taking me there because of that.
[00:12:51] But I try this on for size and see if it feels true for you. That. This year has been about doing hard things, overcoming obstacles, cultivating discipline, despite mindset blocks. So that's what I mean with all this moon energy. That's like all about the. Mindset. And Saturn is all about cultivating discipline. And it is hard.
[00:13:16] This is like the whole thing about discipline. The difference, I would say between discipline and motivation is discipline. Is when you do the damn thing, even when you don't feel like it, you do the thing that you know is the right thing and that, you know, you should do, um, this sort of like planting trees of the shade.
[00:13:34] You'll never sit under, but, um, The best time to plant a tree isn't is now the next best time, or I guess what I'm, I'm mixing that the best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago. The next best time to plant a tree is now. And so that's Saturn, right? It was like, you know, you're, the future generations are going to want to have more trees and we don't have trees right now.
[00:13:57] So instead of whining about not having trees, like get out there and plant some damn trees. Right. That's Saturn. Even if it's hard, even if you have to carry heavy buckets of water, to water, the trees, to take care of the trees. Um, and you're never going to get to sit under the shade of those trees that is Saturn and. With the moon's influence. Um, It's just maybe like when Saturn and the moon are related in this way, it's like maybe the mindset blocks pieces and the emotional components are a little extra heightened over the course of 20, 24. Because of the moon's involvement with Saturn in this way that I've just been describing. And so, uh, that is kind of the difference to me between discipline and motivation is like working through the hard things, like the fears, fear of failure.
[00:14:48] Um, Whatever. To do the hard thing anyway, and then you have Mars, which is more related to. Motivation and motivation is very fleeting. And so I like to compare it to like, discipline is hot coals of a fire that will just like stay burning. And if you blow wind on it, it will actually like catch flame and burn brighter.
[00:15:14] Whereas, um, Mars or not like Mars and always, but, um, motivation. And so like that quality of Mars is more like a spark where if you blow wind on it, it will blow out. Right? Like winds of change will make it blow out. And that's kind of how motivation is. It's like really fleeting. And if something changes. Your motivation might go away. And so that's what we're kind of on this precipice of. Hopefully, if you've done that work, which I suspect you have, this is a thing. That I always, when folks come to me and readings, um, And we're talking about like stuff is, most people are kind of living out their birth chart and living out the astrology, even if they're not paying attention to it.
[00:16:01] I just think the folks that do pay even like. An ENC amount of attention. I do a little bit better. Um, And folks who don't. Um, but. I suspect you have been working through that to a degree this year. You're like mindset blocks and fears, and next year will be the time to kind of set those hot coals ablaze, and maybe lean into motivation a little bit more. Next year in 2025.
[00:16:27] So that's an aside because I can't. Not talk about the greater astrological context, because that's what makes this new moon different from the last new moon and different from, you know, like I'm talking about like the immediate, previous new moon. At the beginning of December, that's what makes this new moon different from the next new moon that will be at the end of January and different from the last year's new moon in Sagittarius. It was all this. Extra context.
[00:16:54] So it feels important. And so let's dive more deeply into specifically. The moon in Sagittarius. So as I was mentioning before, because of those traits of Sagittarius, like the symbol of it, And that it's a fire sign that's ruled by Jupiter, which is sort of all about wisdom and ideals. Um, and optimisms that. Sagittarius is a very optimistic sign. So this time Sagittarius season, we could call it when there's a new moon in Sagittarius, the sun is inside.
[00:17:25] Aerial Sagittarius. Um, Mercury is actually not yet. As of the time I'm recording this, at least I should have looked if it was by this, actually I think I have my. Astrology software pulled up where I can just do that. Um, and see at the time of the new moon. Nope. The mercury will still be in Scorpio.
[00:17:46] So mercury will move. To, um, Sagittarius after the new moon, which just means we have more heightened, um, Sagittarius energy for a while. Around this new moon. So Sagittarius energy. Is all about. Um, optimism. Expanding into your ideals being really. And so it's like, optimism is part of that. What I was saying, like, what would you do if you couldn't fail is like people that are optimistic are more likely to try more shit than people that are pessimistic.
[00:18:20] Like if you're pessimistic and you just think everything's going to go wrong. You're probably going to play things more safe than somebody who's optimistic and they cultivate a sense. And notice I say cultivate, cause I, I do think optimism can be cultivated. Uh, cultivate a sense of like, um, even if something does go wrong, I believe in my ability to deal with that. And so that could be something to look at.
[00:18:46] Cultivating at this new moon is really it's, it's less optimism and it's more what we would call self efficacy. Your belief in your ability to handle hard things. But this is a really like a Sagittarius vibe is like, How much do you believe in yourself? Or how much can you keep your heart open and keep that heart fire alive?
[00:19:08] Despite hard things being true, despite there being hardships and a lot of suffering in the world, can you keep your heart open and keep sort of expanding? Like that, um, that Sentara, can you keep your chest held high and keep that fire alive in your heart? Even though there are hard things, even though there are harsh realities, can you keep. Your fire from being blown out.
[00:19:33] Can you keep your heart from hardening? That's such a Sagittarius vibe. And so if you were to cultivate anything at this new moon, I would hope it would be that. And so, as I mentioned on the housekeeping of the EOB scope slide, before I hit record on the public podcast, which you're probably listening to, if you're on Spotify or. Apple, but folks in the 100 healers circle, get to come. Uh, to the live recording and they get to hear just some like extra bonus content before and do Q and a after the public podcast recording, um, we will still have moon day.
[00:20:08] So if you want to come do a practice on the day of the new moon, jump into the 100 healers circle. If you can, I don't know. Um, if you really want to be there. He hit me up and we can. I think about it. So, um, Yeah. So that's the vibes of Sagittarius to just sort of like recap, it's like cultivating gratitude for your blessings, counting your blessings rather than counting your cursive. Cursive curses.
[00:20:35] Um, Cultivating courage and being brave, cultivating a positive attitude, taking a stand for things that you believe in. Um, and knowing that when you do that, that will likely inspire. Other people and Sagittarius vibes also. Are related to like learning and travel and the lot, excuse me, philosophy and spirituality. Um, So maybe you also out this new moon kind of set your intentions of things that you want to learn in the new year, or maybe travel you want to do in the new year.
[00:21:13] And then on the. Uh, shadow side of Sagittarius. And so this one I'm talking about Sagittarius qualities, I'm talking about. At the new moon. Yes. If you have Sagittarius placements, this is like extra for you. But even if you don't for this whole like Sagittarius season, As I was saying, like when the sun's there, which is through January 13th. I'm 2025. And when, um, like Mercury's there, that energy gets heightened. Um, These qualities are heightened.
[00:21:44] So the more shadow side is that. Um, Sagittarius can be a little bit like argumentative. Uh, so like try not to be like a devil's advocate, like try to only take stands or ignite that fire energy in you for things that you truly believe in, rather than just like. Um, to be argumentative for the sake of it.
[00:22:05] Also try not to, this is a very Sagittarius thing. Like if you've ever met people that are like, Well, I'm just blunt. And if you don't like that, that's on you and I respectfully disagree. And, um, have some other placements in my chart that are similar to that. So I have been that person before where it's like, I speak the truth.
[00:22:25] It's shattered Vish. I have a lot of shattered. Bisha. Placements and we'll talk about shadow Bisha soon enough.
[00:22:33] And shatter Bisha can be blunt in that same way, but this, this idea of being blunt is like, Can you speak the truth with kindness because that does matter. Taking a stand for things you believe in is important. But kindness and making sure that your bluntness doesn't fall on deaf ears because it will, if it stings, right?
[00:22:55] Like people don't usually change from a place of hurt. People change from a place of love and a receptivity and kindness. And that's. That's a fact, try it on for size. And let me know if you disagree. Um, so other. Possible shadow side of the Sagittarius energy. Is like being restless or overindulgent, but I say lean into it.
[00:23:22] This is like the holiday season for a reason. I think I'm of the mind that holiday season. Uh, sort of. Arrived this way because we see, that's why we call it holiday season, right? Because lots of cultures have holidays at this time of year. You'll solstice, a Hanukkah Kwanzaa holidays that involve this like fire and light. In the darkness. Um, And. I think those arrived out of the Sagittarius energy of like cultivating light when it's dark outside togetherness uniting for common ideals, right?
[00:24:04] Like this all day vibe and being indulgent and cooking, like yummy heavy foods. That's a very, Kafa like we're headed into coffee season. And so coffee is this sort of. Natural progression from we're headed out of Vada season, which is like windy and cold and ungrounding and we head into Kafa season.
[00:24:23] We're kind of like rooting down. Which is a natural inclination when we've been through Season two, um, want to like eat heavier foods, sweet foods, and, um, cultivate like warmth and grounding. When we've come to sort of the pinnacle of. Vata season, which we're at right now. Here in the Northern hemisphere at least. Um, So that's another sort of like context thing going on. And so that's the sort of like overarching Sagittarius season we're headed from. Vada season into Kafa season right now as well. And then let's dive into the Knox Yatra of I shot up before I recap with overall energies of the new moon, your yoga practices and journal prompts for the new moon.
[00:25:15] So Parvez, Shada. Translates to the former invincible one or former on conquered. So remember what I said at the beginning of the episode? About what would you do if you couldn't fail? This new moon is a perfect time to cultivate the mindset around. What if you were invincible, like let's, let's just pretend. What if you were invincible. What would you do?
[00:25:42] That's different. And so, um, the symbol, the journal prompts, I promise we'll help you with that. The symbol for this knock Trotter.
[00:25:51]
[00:25:51] is, um, A fan. Or a bed or an elephant tusk. And so I just want to remind you, who is the elephant in. Uh, Vedic sort of mythology, Hindu mythology. It's good. Nash and Nash is the remover of obstacles. And I'll say more about that in a second. So the ruler of poor Rashada, the planetary ruler is Venus, which brings this connection to creativity.
[00:26:23] Luxury. Indulgence beauty. Um, the deity, the ruling deity of this As OPIS the cosmic waters, right. Which brings this idea of like fluidity and cleansing power. And so when you sort of combine all those things, this like. Idea of being invincible. This connection to good Nash, the remover of obstacles. Um, And all of the Sagittarius vibes and all of these things that I've mentioned is, um,
[00:26:59] Can you harness the qualities of water? Two and a more feminine approach rather than a masculine, like, ah, fight. Right. A more feminine and more venous approach to like, um, receptivity and, um, Sweetness and like water when water, this is a guided meditation. I often use with my students and maybe I'll record one, if that would be helpful or we'll do it on one of the upcoming moon days. Um, water. Your mind, can you make your mind more like water?
[00:27:36] So water. If you imagine like a little babbling Brook. Right. And it's babbling because there are all these like rocks in it. And what the babbling that you're hearing is the water kind of trickling over. The rocks and some of the rocks. Are bigger. And some of the rocks are little pebbles and the little pebbles at the bottom of the river, they get really smooth or in the bottom of the Creek or the Brook. They get really smooth because with patients and over time, The water wears away and it's so imperceptible and it's so, um, Subtle. That you can't like see it happening.
[00:28:15] And so, um, it takes a long time, but over time, That those rocks will become smooth. And sometimes though the rocks are bigger and they kind of stick up out of the water. And sometimes we'll have like a little Eddy, which is like, Where the water kind of swirls and it gets stuck there. So we don't want to get stuck in any eddies.
[00:28:36] Right. We want to keep moving on, flowing down. Flowing over the obstacles and recognize that sometimes you will go over a really big rock and a big obstacle. And you'll swirl a little bit and you won't make any progress for a little bit, but eventually you're not going to be stuck in that Eddy forever. Right. Like you'll move along and you'll keep, you know, either going over or around or smoothing out the obstacles.
[00:29:03] And so that's the idea. With this, um, connection to ganache. It doesn't mean this like more masculine idea of like destroy the obstacles. It means this more like Venetian, this venous like feminine idea of being invincible, invincible in an unconquered, which is. Slowly over time in a beautiful way you wear down the obstacles and you keep going and taking that approach to being invincible.
[00:29:33] It doesn't mean that you're not going to hit obstacles. It means that you are going to eventually. Uh, be unconquered, right. And so that's where I started off the episode saying like, how would you behave differently if you knew you couldn't fail. So with this in mind, hopefully that helps. Think about that a little bit. So the qualities. Um, the overall energies of this new moon are setting your intentions for the new year, um, in. Right now is the time to kind of dream big because of all this Saturday Sagittarius energy.
[00:30:09] And we will do that in the yearly planning, uh, play shop, yearly vision setting. I play shop in on January 5th. It will still very much be sad Sagittarius season. And by then mercury will be in Sagittarius as well. And the sun will still be there. And then when Capricorn energy kind of takes over into the middle of January. That's the time to start thinking about like the systems and habits and implementing those things. That will get you there right now. Th there is an important piece of the process too. Um, be expansive in your vision setting and set a vision.
[00:30:45] Like what would you do if you could not fail? Because then when you encounter that big rock this year, this big obstacle and you get stuck swirling in your little Eddy, right? In the Creek or the babbling Brook or river of your mind. Uh, it's really more about your mind and your life. Um, You will. You can refer back to that vision. Like, what would I do if I couldn't fail?
[00:31:11] And then when you feel like you're failing, because you're swirling. Uh, you can more quickly find your way out of that, that swirling. Um, and so. Make sure at this new moon that you try to cultivate and harness, harness these ideas of optimism and fluidity. And tap into. Uh, the energy of water. So will you do that with your. Yoga practice those ideas of flexibility and persistence.
[00:31:39] So Vinyasa flow, if there was ever a time to practice Vinyasa flow it Sagittarius season to sort of build that heat. It's a fire sign. Um, a lot of warrior, two based poses are good for Sagittarius season and a new moon in Sagittarius. I love. A, um, if you're in warrior two and you have your arms out stretch, you can exhale to bring your back Palm. To your front Palm and then inhale to slide that hand back down your front arm. Touching your heart on the way across the heart.
[00:32:09] And then opening all the way back up to regular warrior two hands. So that's like a little breath centered flow, exhale to close it off and inhale. Through making sure you're sliding that hand across the heart. Like you're pulling back the arrow. And exhale. What are you aiming towards? Inhale. To pull it back.
[00:32:30] Right. That's a good little flow. Half moon is another one. Cause we want to build a heat and we want to create that balance. Right. Um, and then heart opening poses. Like I was saying earlier at Sagittarius season and a new moon in Sagittarius, you want to make sure that your. Keeping your heart open and not letting the world harden your heart.
[00:32:50] So keeping that fire in your heart alive and solely a good camel pose. A good. A wild thing. Our good poses and then other hip opening poses after you've done this, maybe hip heavy flow, because Sagittarius does. Sort of governor over the hips and thighs. Uh, pigeon pose a Malaspina. Good poses for Sagittarius and then you'll want to do visualization practices.
[00:33:15] So I just learned the other day that visualization, like imagination. And memory are very closely related in the brain. They're like the same part of the brain where those things come from. And so if you kind of struggle with visualization, if you want to change how you think about yourself, Visualization is a good way to do that because it kind of wires into your brain like, oh yeah, I remember that about myself because you imagined it.
[00:33:41] So suspend some disbelief, get in there and imagine yourself as a flowing river, overcoming obstacles with ease, I will. I'll get a practice out to those of you in the 100 healers circle for this, a recording that you can follow along with guided meditation. And then. Visualize your dreams for the new year, visualize yourself.
